Generation One

Generation One is a really important campaign to bring better understanding and equality of opportunity for indigenous Australians. The basis of the campaign is that if all people – indigenous and non-indigenous Australians, work together we can make a difference in one generation to bridge the gaps in housing, education, health and opportunity.

The Generation One website is generationone.org.au

This week the generation One campaign broadcast this advertisement as an address to teh nation. The speaker is a 13 year old schoolgirl, Madeleine Madden. She is a confident, articulate young woman, and I was not surprised to learn that she is the grand-daughter of Charlie Perkins, a prominent aboriginal activist in the mid and late 2oth century. This video is one of the most hopeful things I have ever seen, and it deserves to be seen and discussed as widely as possible.
